Music: I Heard It Through the Grapevine
1. achievements - The act of accomplishing or finishing. Entering the Science Fair is one of the greatest achievements in elementary school.
2. compass rose - a symbol on a compass or map that is circular with graded points for the directions. The sailor used a compass rose to find his way on the map.
3. experienced - a particular instance of personally encountering or undergoing something The Ghost Tour in St. Augustine was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced.
4. conditions - a particular mode of being of a person or thing; existing state; situation with respect to circumstances. The conditions of the classroom on Friday afternoon were disgusting.
5. colobus any of several large, slender African monkeys. The tribe of colobus swung from tree to tree.
6. ecosystem - An ecological community together with its environment, functioning as a unit. A rainforest ecosystem is filled with a wide variety of plants and animals.
7. European - a person of European descent. A person from France would be called a European.
8. marine - of or pertaining to the sea; existing in or produced by the sea A marine biologist studies sea life.
9. lumbering - the trade or business of cutting and preparing lumber. Marvin of the Great North Woods spent some time in a lumbering business.
10. sanctuary - a sacred or holy place. A sanctuary is a sacred place where people can go to worship.
11. troughs - A long, narrow depression, as between waves or ridges. A deep dent between waves is known as a trough.
12. witnesses - One who can give a firsthand account of something seen, heard, or experienced. After the car accident the police questioned many witnesses for information.
13. vacate - to go away from, leave empty, to void. We had to vacate the area in order for the custodian to clean.
14. strategies - a careful plan or method Your teacher uses many strategies to help you learn.
15. larvae - an early form of any animal that at birth or hatching is very different from its parents. A butterfly starts out its life as an egg, then changes into a larvae.
